Interdisciplinary Center for Analytics on the Nanoscale (ICAN)

Type of Funding: DFG Programmes, Core Facility

Abstract:

The DFG Core Facility ICAN at the university of Duisburg-Essen combines machines, methods and scientific expertise for analysis on the nanometer scale. Fundamental scientific research supports application-oriented development of new materials and devices. A large selection of analytical methods is needed to optimize the fabrication and structure of these materials. Only in this way it is possible to produce specifically tailored devices with highly defined properties. To this end a combination of exceptional analytical tools and expertise is necessary.

ICAN enables the scientific groups of the university of Duisburg-Essen and their collaborators to have their samples analysed by the best suitable methods: characterization encompasses static snap-shots of the material structure as well as time-resolved imaging of processes, which are important for material synthesis and functionality.

The core of ICAN is the microscopy center in the NanoEnergieTechnikZentrum (NETZ) in Duisburg. With brand new laboratories, specially designed for the newest machines, the microsopy center is perfectly equipped for the most sensitive measurements down the atomic length scale.
