"A quantum of music"
Concert on 100 years of quantum mechanics

Quantum physics and music - do they go together? Very well, if the Hamborn Abbey Wind Symphony and Materials Chain members Dr. Nicolas Wöhrl and Prof. Dr. Axel Lorke have their way. On Sunday, October 5, everyone can see for themselves. The concert "Ein Quantum Musik - Musik trifft Wissenschaft im Quantenjahr 2025" will take place in Duisburg.
Computers, solar cells, lasers - many of the achievements of our time are based on quantum mechanics. The discovery of this fascinating world of atoms and light particles began around 100 years ago, in which probabilities and fuzziness replace the classical ideas of the laws of nature.
In keeping with this seemingly "fuzzy" physics, visitors to the concert evening can expect a program full of energy and color: impulsive rhythms and dazzling sounds take them into the visible and invisible quantum world. What does it look like? And what does it have to do with our everyday lives? Musically, the Hamborn Abbey Wind Symphony approaches these questions with specially arranged pieces - but also with popular melodies, for example from Aladdin or Star Wars.
Prof. Dr. Axel Lorke and Dr. Nicolas Wöhrl will guide the audience through the program. The two physicists from the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) will provide an insight into quantum physics with illustrative experiments and a pinch of humor. No previous knowledge is necessary - curiosity is enough.
Date: Sunday, October 5, starting at 6 p.m
Location: Old Audimax Campus Duisburg, Building LA, Lotharstr. 65
Tickets: print@home or at the box office
