Dr. Max Frei and Jannik Korte are the winners of this year's Engineering Innovation Awards of Sparkasse am Niederrhein. They impressed the jury with their dissertation and masters thesis on the automatic analysis of particle images and the improved current management of UVC LEDs. The prizes are awarded by the Association for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and are endowed with 2,500 and 1,500 euros respectively..
In his doctoral thesis "Deep learning for imaging particle analysis applications", Dr. Frei developed an AI-supported method to automatically analyze images of particles. Until now, this process has taken a lot of time and manual work. Frei "tackled a problem in particle measurement technology that has remained unsolved for decades and developed a solution that is highly relevant both scientifically and industrially," said the jury, explaining its decision.
For 28 years, the Sparkasse am Niederrhein, in cooperation with the Moerser Förderverein Ingenieurwissenschaften, has honored progressive and application-oriented dissertations and master's and diploma theses from the UDE faculty.
