Postgraduate Education

Doctoral Programs

The UA Ruhr universities and their partner institutions offer joint programs related to materials research for PhD students.

The International Max Planck Research School on Reactive Structure Analysis for Chemical Reactions (IMPRS-RECHARGE) focuses on interdisciplinary research between chemistry and physics with an emphasis on catalytic mechanisms, physical-chemical analysis and energy topics.

The International Max Planck Research School for for Sustainable Metallurgy (SusMet) focuses on the exploration of carbon-free sustainable metallurgy, employing hydrogen as reducing agent, direct electroreduction and plasma synthesis.

The ICAMS Graduate Scool for Scalebridging Materials Modelling aims to broaden the knowledge with respect to modelling techniques applied on other length scales in order to facilitate the interdisciplinary scientific exchange.

Research Academy Ruhr

Research Academy Ruhr is the cross-university platform for promoting early career researchers within the University Alliance Ruhr. As one of the largest platforms of its kind in Germany, Research Academy Ruhr supports about 10,000 researchers of Ruhr-Universität Bochum, TU Dortmund University, and the University of Duisburg-Essen to advance their career in research, business, and society. Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers benefit from competence-oriented workshops, interdisciplinary networking events, expert-based dialogues on career paths and individual consulting offers. The RAR qualification program is a voluntary, interdisciplinary offer set up and coordinated by the local institutions for the promotion of early career researchers: RUB Research School, Graduate Center TU Dortmund, and Graduate Center Plus of the UDE.
